NADMES Web-site Notes                   Updated 05/06/06

Welcome to our re-designed web-site, the first being constructed in 2000. We've been live with the new version for about two years, and hope you like the result.

It has gobbled up a lot of time, particularly at the start, researching new techniques and getting the look right, somewhat at the cost of my own model engineering project; but hopefully we are succeeding in producing one of the best 'Club' web-sites, which may appeal beyond just our local membership.

I am also trying to keep the site reasonably fast for non broad-band users, so where possible, style sheets are used to replace fixed text images. This has allowed the option of variable font sizes for the main text, which we've introduced on a number of pages. Also for this reason, photos are being kept to sensible sizes, and where appropriate an option to 'click' for a larger version of a specific photo.

Content is being updated regularly where appropriate - nothing worse than a stagnant site - but it takes time to format new material for use. As the average size of a home monitors is increasing, I'm allowing the pages to become slightly wider as most people are now running at a size of at least 1024 x 768.

We are continuing to invite Guest writers to the Features section; to describe something they've made or a modelling experience, though it's actually quite difficult to get people to write things down ! Hopefully you've looked at our most recent items, and I'm happy to say we've more in the pipe-line.

We've had some nice feedback and enquiries to the web-site which is appreciated. If you would like to comment or contact us, you may leave a message using our Feedback form.   Thanks.

Interactive pages.

Whilst Club web-site pages tend to be rather static - we hope to have a few inter-active pages too. Hence our searchable "Model Locomotive Design Database", an option in the Resources section to make the computer more useful. There are over 250 entries, and further details and photos will be added when found.
We hope to add a similar database of traction engines and steam road vehicles when more data has been compiled.

As a computer is really a large number cruncher, we've also included a scale size calculator, and an imperial / metric values converter.

Development has slowed a little as I want to spend for time finishing my own model, but new pages are being added, and althouh few people will notice, I'm gradually re-writing pages using the C# langauge, which itself is another learning curve for me !

Thanks for reading . . .             Rob.
